Job Title: Senior Lab Specialist

The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lab Specialist to provide scientific and technical support for laboratory-based research in molecular genetics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage laboratory operations, including research studies, experiments, and data analysis.
  • Assist senior scientists in developing methodologies and protocols for ongoing lab projects.
  • Train and mentor new lab members in scientific techniques and procedures.
  • Collaborate with researchers to design and implement experiments, collect and analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Order and manage laboratory supplies, equipment, and reagents.
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance, including calibration and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • At least 9 years of experience in a lab technician role, with a strong background in molecular genetics and CRISPR-mediated gene editing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers, students, and other laboratory personnel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and report complex data.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to quality and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in molecular biology or a related field.
  • Experience with CRISPR-mediated gene editing and DNA repair mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior laboratory personnel.
