Job Description:

This position is for a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planner. The role entails developing a disaster recovery plan for multiple systems, including those integrated with other systems, and a business continuity plan that covers all aspects of standard business continuity plans.

The individual will work with executives, management, and subject matter experts across the client to develop, maintain, or implement business continuity and disaster recovery strategies and solutions, including risk assessments, business impact analyses, strategy selection, and documentation of business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, or implement business continuity and disaster recovery strategies and solutions
  • Plan, conduct, and debrief regular mock-disaster exercises to test the adequacy of existing plans and strategies
  • Act as a coordinator for continuity efforts after a disruption event
  • Develop emergency management plans for recovery decision making and communications, continuity of critical departmental processes, or temporary shut-down of noncritical departments to ensure continuity of operation and governance
  • Develop disaster recovery plans for physical locations with critical assets, such as data centers
  • Test documented disaster recovery strategies and plans
Scope of Services:

This position encompasses highly technical and supervisory responsibilities in BCP activities. The candidate will work with business and IT organizations to develop and refine their business continuity strategies.

Including but not limited to providing expert advice, assessing risks, and providing solutions to ensure the organization is prepared for unexpected disruptions.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Develop disaster recovery plans for physical locations with critical assets such as data centers
  • Develop contingency plans to deal with organizational emergencies
  • Test documented disaster recovery strategies and plans
  • Analyze impact on, and risk to, essential business functions or information systems to identify acceptable recovery time periods and resource requirements
  • Assess risks to business operations
  • Develop emergency management plans for recovery decision making and communications, continuity of critical departmental processes, or temporary shut-down of non-critical departments to ensure continuity of operation and governance
  • Develop contingency plans to deal with organizational emergencies
  • Review existing disaster recovery, crisis management, or business continuity plans
  • Establish, maintain, or test call trees to ensure appropriate communication during disaster
  • Conduct or oversee contingency plan integration and operation
  • Write reports to summarize testing activities, including descriptions of goals, planning, scheduling, execution, results, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Create business continuity and disaster recovery budgets
  • Attend professional meetings, read literature, and participate in training or other educational offerings to keep abreast of new developments and technologies related to disaster recovery and business continuity
Requirements:

Min 5+ years of experience in developing and implementing Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans across multiple industries

Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, business impact analyses, and continuity exercises

BA or BS, A degree in a relevant field such as Business Continuity Management, Disaster Recovery, Information Technology, or Risk Management
