About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team at the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health challenges, empowering them to achieve recovery and wellness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support services to individuals with mental health challenges, promoting hope, empowerment, and recovery.
  • Work collaboratively with the OnTrackNY team to develop and implement treatment plans that are tailored to each individual's needs.
  • Facilitate group sessions and community-based activities to promote social connections and support networks.
  • Engage with community-based organizations and resources to provide participants with access to essential services and support.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in peer support and mental health recovery.
Requirements
  • NYS certification as a Peer Specialist or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to empathize with individuals with mental health challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outside of traditional office settings, including in the community and homes of participants.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Lived experience of mental health challenges, including experience with psychosis during youth.
  • Member of the local community, with awareness and understanding of the culture and community resources.
