Job Title: Non-Clinical Patient Navigator

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Non-Clinical Patient Navigator to join our team. As a key member of our cancer care team, you will play a vital role in supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.

Job Summary:
  • Provide patient navigation and follow-up for individuals who self-refer or are referred needing assistance with cancer screening, diagnostic and treatment medical appointments, low-cost or free screening mammograms, pap tests, cancer services, and access to a primary care physician or community clinic.
  • Assist patients by navigating individuals to internal resources provided by the Program and external community or social agencies or community resources.
  • Help patients navigate access and address barriers to care, serving as an advocate for patients.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement patient navigation plans to ensure timely and effective access to cancer care services.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families on cancer diagnosis, treatment options, and resources available to them.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, social workers, and other members of the cancer care team to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Identify and address barriers to care, including financial, social, and cultural barriers.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in patient navigation, social work, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual Spanish-English.
  • Previous experience or knowledge in navigating cancer or breast cancer patients.
  • Experience in working with the Hispanic/Latinx community.
