8:00 A.M - 4:00 P.M

Position Purpose

The Patient Transport Specialist plays a crucial role in our healthcare environment, receiving assignments from designated personnel responsible for patient and messenger transport, in accordance with established operational protocols. The primary responsibility includes transporting patients to and from the Nursing Service and various treatment areas for specialized procedures and examinations, while also performing additional duties as required.

Key Responsibilities
- Report to the Patient Escort office at the start and end of each shift to manage the rover device.
- Receive transport assignments via rover or from the tour dispatcher/designee.
- Introduce yourself to patients, verify their identification, explain the transport process, and escort them to and from the nursing service until the receiving department takes over.
- Safely transport patients using wheelchairs, stretchers, cribs, or by assisting ambulatory patients, including those with intravenous equipment, to various nursing units, x-ray facilities, scheduled therapies, clinics, discharge areas, and religious centers within the hospital.
- Return any medical equipment utilized during patient transport.
- Handle the transportation of bodies, fetuses, and amputated parts to the morgue as necessary.
- Perform duties of the NATE in the admitting office when required.
- Accompany discharged patients from the units to the discharge/property office and to the pharmacy for medication, ensuring they reach their designated transportation.
- Provide escort services for all patients over the age of four.
- Remain at the assigned post until relieved or authorized to leave.

During system downtimes, maintain an activity log documenting all requests, including:

a) Time Dispatched
b) MR#
c) From Unit
d) To Unit
e) Patient Wearing ID Band
f) Two patient identifiers
g) Receiving Unit
h) Received by
i) Time received in Patient's Chart

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of elementary school or equivalent, with the ability to effectively communicate with patients; capacity to maintain simple clinical records.
