Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Prior Authorization Technician to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a Prior Authorization Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients have timely access to critical medications. Your primary responsibility will involve obtaining medication authorizations from insurance plans, assessing patient eligibility, and investigating pharmaceutical medication assistance programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain medication authorizations from insurance plans
  • Assess patient eligibility for medication assistance programs
  • Investigate pharmaceutical medication assistance programs
  • Stay informed about changes in carrier contracts and departmental policies
  • Use independent judgment in a patient care setting

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • 6 months minimum relevant experience required
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required
  • CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required

Physical Demands

  • Standing for prolonged periods
  • Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills
  • Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs
