Senior Electronics Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics Design Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Miniature Device Technologies Group, you will play a critical role in developing innovative solutions for our government sponsors.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and develop custom electronic systems for a wide range of applications, including RF communications, position, navigation, and timing (PNT), microelectronics, and sensor systems.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to integrate your designs into the greater system.
- Conceive, design, and evaluate solutions that require knowledge of sensors, discrete analog/RF circuit design, power supply design, and interfacing with microcontrollers/FPGAs/custom ASICs.
- Pursue new technical concepts to improve the size, weight, and power (SWaP) of existing solutions.
- Ensure device reliability through rigorous testing under real-world conditions.
- Manage projects on the order of $1M funding per year, or teams of 3 or more staff.
- BS in engineering or related discipline.
- 6+ years of experience specifically designing and testing custom hardware, including RF ASIC technology.
- At least 4 years of experience with RF and/or high-speed digital design.
- Skilled at using ASIC design tools such as Cadence.
- Working knowledge of laboratory test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, waveform generators, and vector network analyzers.
- Experience managing projects and mentoring junior staff.
- Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.
- MS or beyond in engineering, physics, or related discipline.
- Extensive knowledge in ASIC technology, including material selection.
- Background in microelectronics integration, such as chip-on-board, chip-scale packaging, chip depackaging, and wirebonding.
- Experience with 3D CAD tools suitable for concept mockups or component modeling.
- Software development skills suitable for developing automation tools, test interfaces, etc.
We offer a competitive salary range of $90,000 to $330,000 annually, depending on experience.
