Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and fabricating complex electronic assemblies for critical national programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes for high-reliability electronic and microelectronic assemblies
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to design and build complex electronic assemblies
  • Interface with vendors to source materials and equipment
  • Perform analyses to ensure that hardware meets sponsor requirements
  • Recommend new materials and processes to improve performance, quality, cost, and schedule
Requirements
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of increasingly responsible work in an electronics manufacturing environment, particularly in a high-mix, low-volume SMT facility
  • Experience working with microelectronic assemblies and providing guidance and process improvements for such assemblies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with partners
  • Proven process development and improvement skills with knowledge of solder joint characteristics and SMT processing tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building electronic hardware for spacecraft
  • Experience with IPC J-STD-001F
  • 5+ years of experience with microelectronics assemblies
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE)
  • Exposure to manufacturing resource planning (MRP) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems
