Job Title: Spacecraft Power Electronics Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Spacecraft Power Electronics Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Spacecraft Power Engineering Group (SEP), you will play a critical role in designing, testing, and delivering reliable spacecraft power systems for APL's space sector and broader space community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop power electronics hardware for space flight missions
  • Contribute to the development of ground support equipment products to support flight hardware verification
  • Perform technical trade studies to optimize power electronics design
  • Develop and verify hardware requirements for spacecraft power systems
  • Generate fabrication drawings and support production of power electronics components
  • Characterize performance of power electronics designs and document hardware verification activities
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 6+ years of experience developing high reliability power electronics hardware
  • Strong skills in power electronics design, production, and test
  • Experience with circuit simulation, worst-case analysis, and derating analysis
  • Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience developing electronics hardware for spacecraft applications
  • Leadership experience in electrical hardware development teams
  • Experience with motor control electronics and algorithms
  • Familiarity with radiation tolerant and space-qualified parts
  • Experience designing power magnetics
  • Proficiency in Mentor Graphics Expedition
