Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Director to join our team at West Virginia Northern Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the physical plant operations and maintenance of our three campuses, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the acquisition of necessary materials and services to support physical plant operations and maintenance.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Physical Plant Operations and Maintenance team, prioritizing and assigning tasks as needed.
  • Assist department personnel in problem-solving and technical decision-making, providing guidance and support as required.
  • Coordinate and order contracted maintenance and repair services, ensuring timely and cost-effective solutions.
  • Validate facility expenses and prepare for payment, ensuring compliance with college policies and procedures.
  • Periodically inspect buildings, grounds, equipment, and operating systems to identify maintenance and repair needs, ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
  • Coordinate safety and training programs in cooperation with the Safety Committee, promoting a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Work with the Board of Risk Management (BRIM) to provide requested information, assist, and participate in facilities audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Act as liaison between the college and vendors, as well as with state central staff regarding facilities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Perform maintenance and custodial services in absence of or in assistance with maintenance and/or custodial personnel, ensuring continuity of operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations concerning health, safety, and building codes, maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Manage small projects, less than $50K, with internal staff and external contractors, ensuring timely and cost-effective solutions.
Requirements
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and supervise staff.
  • Excellent collaboration and team building skills, with a strong technical aptitude.
  • Possesses a good knowledge of industry standard/procedures/practices for safety and various trades, including heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, and other related trades.
  • Experience in a regulated environment, with knowledge of all applicable building and safety codes (local, state, and federal).
  • Strong mechanical skills, with the ability to operate hand and power tools and demonstrate their proper use to subordinates.
  • Valid Driver's License Upon Hire.
