The Healthcare Facilities Maintenance (HFM) program at CALPIA is designed to provide custodial services that meet the stringent requirements of California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS). This program not only trains incarcerated individuals in essential cleaning techniques but also prepares them for future employment in the healthcare facilities maintenance sector.

The PIA is currently looking to fill a Custodian role. In this position, you will work closely with incarcerated individuals, providing guidance and support in custodial tasks. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of buildings and facilities.
  • Assisting in the arrangement and movement of furniture and equipment.
  • Ensuring lights are turned off and doors and windows are secured.
  • Restocking lavatory and housekeeping supplies.
  • Operating cleaning equipment such as scrubbers and buffers.

Working Conditions

Individuals appointed to this role must possess the physical strength, agility, and endurance to perform effectively in potentially stressful situations. Responsibilities may include supervising incarcerated individuals and ensuring the safety of both personnel and property. It is important to note that custodial staff may be required to wear personal alarms and carry safety whistles while on duty.

Special Requirements

Upon receiving a conditional job offer, candidates will need to undergo a live scan, tuberculosis (TB) test, and a physical examination if necessary. This position is also subject to reasonable suspicion drug testing.

New employees will be required to attend an orientation program to familiarize themselves with the operational standards and expectations of CALPIA.
