The Chief Operations Executive is accountable for overseeing and managing the administrative leadership, financial outcomes, and operational activities of the healthcare facility.
This role includes responsibility for special initiatives assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, along with operational management and clinical supervision in collaboration with nursing and departmental leaders.
During the absence of the CEO, the COO will assume the responsibilities of the CEO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the operational functions of the hospital.
- Ensure financial performance aligns with organizational goals.
- Oversee special projects as directed by the CEO.
- Collaborate with clinical leaders to maintain high standards of care.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A clinical degree with licensure is acceptable, provided there is progressive management experience.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years in a leadership position at the administrative level is essential. This includes five years of clinical or hospital operations experience with supervisory and personnel management responsibilities. Experience with P&L management over service lines or departments is also required.
Education and experience requirements may be adjusted at the discretion of the Administrator.
Essential Skills:
- Proven experience with TJC, CMS, and State licensing.
- Ability to develop criteria-based reports and policies.
- Demonstrated expertise in planning and implementing hospital operating systems, including budget development, risk management, and quality assurance.
- Knowledge of county, state, and federal standards, regulations, and accreditation processes.
- Familiarity with inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services.
Personal Attributes:
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- Ability to make sound, independent judgments based on ethical principles.
- Capacity to handle complex mental activities and technical situations.
- Ability to work effectively under stress and adapt to changing workloads.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a high level of discretion to maintain confidentiality.
