About the Position

We are seeking a highly qualified Nursing Instructor to join our team at South Arkansas College. As a Nursing Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching and mentoring High School PN students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.

Job Summary

The selected applicant will be responsible for instructing High School PN students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings of the program. This is a full-time, twelve-month position. The selected candidate should be articulate, team-oriented, professional in appearance and demeanor, and display excellent interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise High School PN students in the classroom, simulation lab, and clinical settings
  • Assist the High School PN Program Coordinator with completing and submitting program documents required by regulatory entities
  • Ensure the High School PN program abides by college, regulatory, and accreditation regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Collaborate with the High School PN Program Coordinator, Nursing Program Director, Dean of Health Sciences, and the Dean of Career Education in coordinating and scheduling program courses each semester
  • Work with faculty members to develop and maintain current master and course syllabi
  • Work with faculty members to perform assessment of applicable nursing courses and submission of course assessment reports
  • Maintain a comprehensive system of records for administration, faculty, and students
  • Assist with the preparation of reports for internal and external purposes
  • Carry on correspondence relating to the program
  • Assist with preparation of program budget
  • Assist with preparation of program publications, brochures, and applicable sections of the college catalog
  • Serve on college committees and attend meetings as appointed
  • Work with High School PN Coordinator and Nursing Program Director to develop and implement policies related to admission, retention, and progression of students
  • Provide academic advisement to students
  • Assist with planning and implementing student recruitment activities
  • Work with High School PN Coordinator to assess and evaluate student retention and attrition
  • Collaborate with the High School PN Program Coordinator and the Nursing Program Director to initiate and maintain current contractual agreements with clinical agencies
  • Assist with the development of preceptorship/internship experiences
  • Collaborate with faculty to procure and implement use of equipment, supplies, electronic technology, applicable software, and learning resources for class, lab, and/or clinical delivery and enhancement
  • Collaborate with the High School PN Coordinator, Nursing Program Director, and the Dean of Health Sciences to ensure efficient use of instructional resources to facilitate student progress toward meeting objectives
  • Participate in scholarly and service activities that include current nursing education and professional development
  • Participate in bi-annual advisory committee meetings, including collaboration to assess the needs of the community and respond appropriately
Requirements
  • Holds a valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing license to practice in Arkansas
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Ability to operate and instruct utilizing standard nursing equipment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (RN) or Master of Science in Nursing degree (RN)
  • Has work experience as a Registered Nurse for five (5) or more years
  • Has work experience in teaching and/or clinical instruction
  • Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing
Physical Requirements
  • Physical mobility sufficient for long periods of office work and direct supervision of students in lab and clinical settings
  • Have visual ability sufficient for observation and assessment
  • Auditory ability sufficient for monitoring and assessing health needs
  • Fine and gross motor skills sufficient for providing safe and competent nursing care
  • Ability to move around and about their area, and operate a computer as needed
  • Some lifting will be expected and he/she must be able to perform expected duties of a nursing instructor in various clinical settings
