Job Title: Senior Environmental Scientist

The Department of Transportation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our Biological Science and Innovation Office, you will coordinate and negotiate with districts and state and federal environmental agencies regarding wildlife species and protected animal species.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance, direction, and expertise on endangered species regulations.
  • Assist district environmental units in determining appropriate and cost-effective aquatic and terrestrial connectivity remediation measures.
  • Coordinate the statewide assessment and identification of wildlife connectivity barriers on the State Highway System.
  • Guide and negotiate project approvals and permits related to biological resources.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a State-owned or leased vehicle.
  • Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is fast-paced, busy, and requires considerable flexibility in managing time, priorities, and assignments. It can be demanding and/or stressful. The incumbent may be required to travel to district offices or other meeting facilities, and/or to the sites of proposed projects.
