Job Summary

The Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Scientist to join our Habitat Conservation Program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for completing environmental review and permitting tasks related to the Department's Lake and Streambed Alteration Program, the California Endangered Species Act, and other laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental reviews and permitting tasks for the Department's Lake and Streambed Alteration Program
  • Work closely with the Senior Environmental Scientist to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement habitat conservation plans
  • Travel to project sites to conduct fieldwork and inspections
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including other government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private landowners

Requirements

  • Transfer eligibility or passing the Environmental Scientist exam
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard for several hours each day
  • Ability to complete office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking to other locations
  • Ability to attend meetings and conference calls
  • Ability to travel to project sites, including early mornings and late nights
  • Ability to hike over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain
  • Ability to use an All-Terrain vehicle
