Other responsibilities of the Senior Statewide Accountant encompass overseeing security assessments for statewide financial systems, conducting thorough internal control evaluations, and preparing draft financial schedules for the Statewide Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). This role may also involve providing testimony in court or legislative hearings regarding findings and offering strategic advice on financial regulations and internal control enhancements to improve state agency operations.

Successful candidates will be experienced professionals with strong analytical capabilities, adept at tackling complex accounting issues independently while proactively working to uphold and enhance the financial integrity of Arizona's state operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning and evaluation of design, modifications, and enhancements of statewide financial systems.
  • Oversee the completion of complex tasks by subordinate or assigned professional staff related to the Automated Warrant Reconciliation (AWR) unit.
  • Draft or review correspondence from subordinate staff that requires discretion and judgment.
  • Monitor follow-up activities on auditor general recommendations.
  • Provide guidance and research to agencies and boards to resolve defined issues.
  • Make recommendations for improvements based on specialized knowledge.
