Vascular Surgery Opportunity in South Carolina

Position Overview: The Department of Veterans Affairs is actively seeking a skilled Vascular Surgeon with expertise in endovascular techniques to enhance our healthcare team.
Team Composition: The Vascular Section comprises two vascular surgeons, rotating general surgical residents, mid-level providers, and a dedicated RN nurse case manager.
Facilities: Our facility has recently upgraded to two state-of-the-art interventional suites within the cardiology department, facilitating advanced endovascular procedures. Additional support for these procedures will be available in our cardiology suites.
Vascular Lab: The cardiology clinic features a fully equipped vascular lab, staffed by cardiologists, radiologists, and a vascular surgeon, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
Call Schedule: The current vascular call schedule is integrated with general surgery, but there is flexibility for vascular surgeons to maintain a dedicated vascular call without general surgery obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial evaluations and comprehensive workups for vascular surgery patients.
- Educate patients about their conditions and treatment options, emphasizing the risks and benefits of surgical procedures.
- Participate in various hospital committees and maintain continuing medical education (CME) requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with patients and colleagues, treating all individuals with respect and dignity.
- Understand and adhere to the Medical Bylaws of the facility.
- Serve as a consultant to medical center staff and trainees, providing training to medical students, residents, and mid-level providers.
Academic Appointment: The ability to secure an academic appointment with our university affiliate is essential.
Surgical Procedures: The role involves performing both endovascular and open surgical procedures, including but not limited to carotid endarterectomy and vascular interventions of the iliofemoral system, aorta, and renal dialysis access.
General Surgical Knowledge: A basic understanding of uncomplicated general surgical procedures, such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and herniorrhaphy, may be required.
Workload: The position is estimated to be approximately 95% clinical and 5% administrative.
Compensation: Salary potential is up to $325,000 annually, with a recruitment/relocation incentive available for highly qualified candidates.
Education Debt Reduction Program: Eligible candidates may apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program.
Basic Requirements:
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in the United States.
