Position Overview: The Department of Veterans Affairs is looking for a skilled Vascular Surgeon to enhance our dedicated healthcare team. This role is based at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC.
Team Structure: The Vascular Section is composed of two vascular surgeons, rotating general surgical residents, mid-level providers, and an RN nurse case manager, all collaborating to provide exceptional patient care.
Facilities: Our facility boasts two newly established interventional suites within the cardiology service, designed to support advanced endovascular procedures. The cardiology clinic is equipped with a fully operational vascular lab, staffed by cardiologists, radiologists, and vascular surgeons.
Call Schedule: The current vascular call schedule is integrated with general surgery, although there is flexibility for vascular surgeons to maintain a dedicated vascular call without general surgery duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial evaluations and comprehensive workups for vascular surgery patients.
- Educate patients about their conditions and the anticipated treatment plans, ensuring they understand the risks and benefits associated with surgical procedures.
- Participate in various hospital committees to contribute to the overall improvement of services.
- Maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements to uphold licensure and specialized certification.
- Foster a respectful and dignified environment for patients and colleagues alike.
- Understand and adhere to the Medical Bylaws of the facility.
- Act as a consultant for other medical staff and provide training for medical students, residents, and mid-level providers.
Academic Opportunities: The ability to secure an academic appointment with our university affiliate is essential. The role encompasses both endovascular and open surgical procedures, including but not limited to carotid endarterectomy and vascular interventions for the iliofemoral system, aorta, and renal dialysis access.
Additional Requirements: Candidates should possess knowledge of basic general surgical procedures, which may include appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and herniorrhaphy. The position is expected to be approximately 95% clinical and 5% administrative.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is up to $325,000 annually. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be available for highly qualified candidates.

Basic Qualifications:
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
