Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Executive Director of State Government Relations to join our team at UNC Health Care. This is a key leadership role that will serve as the primary liaison to the North Carolina General Assembly and other state-level officials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive advocacy strategy to advance the interests of UNC Health Care and UNC School of Medicine at the state level.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including members of the North Carolina General Assembly, the Governor, and other senior officials.
  • Monitor and analyze legislation and public policy issues that may impact UNC Health Care and UNC School of Medicine.
  • Collaborate with other state-focused University government affairs officers to ensure coordinated approaches on government relations at all levels.
  • Develop and implement grass-root strategies for influencing the passing of various policy initiatives at the state level.
  • Represent UNC Health Care and UNC School of Medicine to appropriate North Carolina organizations or coalitions.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein as assigned by the Chief External Affairs Officer and the Vice President of Government Affairs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Seven (7) years of progressive experience in the areas of federal or state public policy development, including advocacy or policy-focused efforts at the Federal and State levels of government.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and solutions in a clear, concise manner.
  • Excellent project management and change management skills for designing and implementing high-priority department initiatives in a complex environment.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires a strong understanding of state government relations and policy development. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in this field and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
