Position Overview

The Surgical Technologist (ST) plays a vital role in the surgical team, assisting in the preparation and care of patients undergoing surgical procedures. Under the guidance of a registered nurse, the ST applies their knowledge of sterile techniques, human anatomy, and surgical procedures to support the surgical team effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Level I: As a new graduate with up to 18 months of experience, you will:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to service excellence towards patients and colleagues.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and assist in establishing sterile fields.
  • Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Perform accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
  • Adapt to changes within the unit and show eagerness to learn.
  • Participate in on-call duties and shift rotations as required.

Level II: With additional experience, you will:

  • Assist in training new surgical technologists.
  • Independently maintain sterile fields and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of instrumentation and case preparation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures and related instrumentation.
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to respond to critical situations.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training.

Experience: Level I is suitable for new graduates or those with up to 18 months of experience; Level II requires 6 to 12 months of relevant experience.
