Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additionally, at least one year of post-high school secretarial/computer training or two years of secretarial experience in a hospital or clinic setting is necessary.

Certification/Licenses: None are required.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite applications (email, Scheduler, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) at an intermediate to advanced level is required.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resources and hospital policies and procedures is essential.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and possess effective organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer relations skills are necessary.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally in English is required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of office or administrative support experience is required.

Nature of Supervision:

Responsible to: Assigned Patient Care Directors

Environment:

Works in a clean, well-lighted, ventilated, smoke-free environment. Patient contact is required while performing duties on units. Subject to stressful professional relationships. VDT exposure is possible. Working hours are varied, with flexibility due to unexpected changes in schedule and emergencies.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and work for long periods of time at a computer terminal using sound ergonomic principles. Extensive use of hands for writing and use of computer is required. Additionally, duties require ability to regularly stand, walk, stoop, and reach. Moderate physical effort (able to lift/carry up to 15 lbs.) is necessary.
