Job Overview

Objective of Your Role:

The main objective of your role is to support food preparation, dining area setup, and post-meal cleanup.

Authority Delegation:

As a nutritional support specialist, you are entrusted with the necessary administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to fulfill your assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities & Duties; Including but not limited to:

Kitchen Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of meals according to the established menu, ensuring they are presented in an appealing and appetizing manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
  • Record food temperatures during all meal services.
  • Log temperatures for coolers, freezers, dishwashers, and sanitizers daily.
  • Receive deliveries and manage invoices.
  • Prepare necessary supplies for special events and activities.
  • Assist in inventory management, ensuring proper stock rotation.
  • Ensure safe handling, labeling, dating, and storage of opened food items.
  • Prepare beverages and utensils prior to each meal service, ensuring readiness 20 minutes before meal times.
  • Serve meals through the kitchen service area.
  • Clear tables, sweep, and sanitize dining areas after meals and snacks.
  • Wash, sort, and sanitize dishes and store them appropriately.
  • Regularly clean equipment, appliances, floors, drains, storage areas, and sinks as needed.
  • Assist in food preparation as per the prep list.
  • Dispose of waste at the end of each shift.

Professional Appearance

  • Adhere to the dress code policy, wearing appropriate attire such as scrubs or khakis with a collared shirt.
  • Maintain clean clothing/uniform and footwear, ensuring closed-toe shoes are worn.
  • Wear a name badge as part of the uniform.
  • Keep hair secured away from the face, using a hairnet or cap.

Communication & Documentation

  • Report any changes in residents' conditions to the nursing staff.
  • Document changes in residents' responses to meals and snacks.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, including time, witness, and details.
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual documentation as required.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and ensure record-keeping is timely and accurate.
  • Address resident concerns and safety issues as instructed.
  • Foster a supportive environment through respectful communication with colleagues.
  • Handle interpersonal conflicts directly and privately, seeking supervisor assistance if needed.
  • Engage with residents in a respectful and person-centered manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding resident information.

Infection Control Practices

  • Comply with established infection control policies and procedures.
  • Practice proper hand hygiene between residents and services.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment as required.
  • Dispose of waste properly at the end of each shift.

Training & Development

  • Participate in department meetings and mandatory training sessions.
  • Complete annual training requirements as specified.
  • Stay informed about best practices in dietary support.
  • Maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid.

Resident Rights & Safety

  • Address residents respectfully and maintain their confidentiality.
  • Respond to resident and family concerns in accordance with facility policies.
  • Ensure a safe environment by reporting hazards and unsafe conditions.

Work Environment

  • Work throughout resident areas, engaging with residents and staff.
  • Be prepared for physical demands, including lifting and moving items.
  • Adapt to a dynamic work environment with frequent interruptions.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in dietary support is preferred.
  • A passion for working with the elderly is essential.
  • Strong communication skills are required.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout the workday and perform physical tasks.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to manage stress and work with residents in various emotional states.
