Job Objective: Provide assistance to the classroom instructor with educational activities and support students with disabilities under the guidance of special education and general education professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate the implementation of activities aimed at meeting the objectives outlined in students' Individual Educational Plans.
  • Support students in instructional tasks, curriculum adjustments, and adaptations in collaboration with the classroom and/or special education teacher.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress through systematic data collection.
  • Engage in an Adult Transition Program (ATP).
  • Provide individual or small group support to enhance functional living skills, including financial literacy, time management, calendar usage, social interactions, self-regulation, and written communication.
  • Utilize computers and other assistive technology to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Oversee students in individual and small group settings to facilitate access to community resources, such as retail stores, libraries, fitness centers, and dining establishments.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher and local employers to support students in practical work experiences.
  • Demonstrate comfort in navigating the local area with adult learners.
  • Complete necessary training and be prepared to operate the school vehicle.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities, including program-specific training and behavioral management techniques, to enhance skill sets required for the role.
  • Foster learning environments that prioritize student engagement, safety, and support.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with supervisors via phone or text.
  • Uphold a high standard of ethical conduct.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the district supervisor.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: The role involves frequent sitting, walking, and standing. The ability to lift up to sixty (60) pounds occasionally is required, along with capabilities to reach, stand, walk, carry, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, and/or crawl. Effective hearing and vision are necessary for clear communication. The position may involve exposure to varying temperatures and conditions that present some risk of injury or illness.

Employment Terms: This position is for a duration of nine (9) months, aligning with the academic school year.

Performance Evaluation: Job performance will be assessed by the Supervising Teacher and Building Administrator.
