Job Summary

The Director of Continuing Education and Training will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive continuing education program that enhances the skills and knowledge of occupational safety and health professionals and allied professionals in Region IX. This position will require strong leadership, project management, and communication skills to establish a strategic plan, develop and implement educational activities, and secure new sources of revenue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the continuing education program, including assessing needs, developing educational activities, and evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Lead the development and implementation of educational activities, such as webinars, short courses, workshops, and conferences, to improve workers' health and safety in Region IX.
  • Secure new sources of revenue, including grants and contracts, to support continuing education program activities.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with other NIOSH-funded centers, the UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health Program, and other aligned organizations.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the continuing education program and its activities.
  • Build and maintain a professional network across Region IX to stay informed about occupational safety and health issues and trends.
  • Engage with the continuing education program external advisory committee and SCERC executive committee to ensure program alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain program records and databases to track program activities and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in public health, business, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and monitoring budgets to meet sponsor's guidelines and requirements.
  • Experience with computer systems and software used for word processing, e-mail, calendars, spreadsheets, presentations, reference management, and video conferencing.
  • Advanced project management experience, including skills and ability to work independently to fulfill project goals and manage multiple timelines.
  • Knowledge and experience in administration, preferably in a research and/or academic setting, to fulfill the center's goals and mission.
  • Working knowledge of contracts and grants, preferably both in pre- and post-award.
  • Ability to work under pressure, to establish priorities, and to meet strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including establishing and maintaining timelines for multiple simultaneous activities and coordinating activities of groups at remote locations.
  • Knowledge about occupational health, public health, and trainee programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to accurately and effectively communicate to a wide spectrum of individuals, including faculty, staff, and external audiences.
  • Autonomy, initiative, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with faculty and staff and research partners.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of funding agency policies and guidelines for extramural funded research.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships across campus, the community, and nationally.
  • Working knowledge of agency and foundation grant requirements, policies, and procedures affecting restricted and unrestricted fund expenditures.
