Role Responsibilities:
The Nutrition Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with various regulations and standards, including those set by the Division of Aging and the Division of Health, as well as other relevant credentialing and licensing bodies. This role requires collaboration with patients, healthcare staff, physicians, consultants, vendors, and other service providers.
- Exhibits clinical proficiency to achieve quality-focused outcomes for both inpatient and outpatient services.
- Reviews and approves menus and nutritional supplements for patients.
- Evaluates patients' nutritional status in accordance with established guidelines.
- Conducts assessments as mandated by established protocols.
- Gathers necessary information from medical records to ascertain patients' nutritional needs.
- Creates tailored nutritional care plans for patients across all age groups, including neonates, children, adolescents, geriatrics, and those with terminal conditions.
- Develops care plans that respect the cultural backgrounds of patients.
- Assesses the effectiveness of nutritional interventions and modifies care plans as needed.
- Works closely with physicians to determine suitable nutritional strategies.
- Assists in the development and implementation of patient nutrition programs, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Engages professionally with patients and their families, providing education and counseling to facilitate healthier eating habits.
- Delivers patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of healthcare errors.
- Provides information on food-drug interactions to medical staff.
- Maintains effective working relationships within the department and across other departments.
- Adheres to current documentation standards and policies.
- Conducts educational sessions for hospital staff and the community as requested.
- Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform under pressure.
- Collaborates with pharmacy, nursing, nutrition services, and other ancillary departments to implement recommendations.
- Participates in care conferences for patients identified as at risk for suboptimal outcomes.
- Exhibits professionalism and effective communication within interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient results.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Full-time (80 hours biweekly)
- 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with rotating weekends
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Registered Dietitian licensure in Missouri; 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Certification/Licensure required: Completion of requirements to sit for the CDR Registry Exam
