Emerson Hospital is seeking a skilled Senior Phlebotomist to join our team in Concord, MA.
Job Summary:Under the general direction of the Phlebotomy/Processing Supervisor, this role provides blood specimens for diagnoses and accession specimens by drawing blood from patients and performing data collection and entry.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervises phlebotomy area in supervisor's absence by directing and overseeing the work of other phlebotomists, including daily assignments.
- Trains new staff members by orienting each to the lab and hospital and teaching the principles and techniques of phlebotomy as practiced by the hospital.
- Obtains blood specimens for inpatients/outpatients by going to floors and drawing blood per floor requests or drawing in the lab per outpatient requests.
- Responds to stat requests by giving priority treatment to affected patients and alerting department personnel to stat request.
- Maintains proper documentation of activities by logging in and out of nursing books and signing other required documentation.
- Performs accessioning duties by identifying, data entry, and labeling all specimens.
- Assists with specimens brought in and staffing of specimen processing department.
- Assists with general operations by covering understaffed areas as needed, starting glucose tolerance tests, answering phones and other related duties.
- Assists with patient call backs.
- Assists with weekly supply ordering, including inventory in laboratory, JCB laboratory, as well as clinical units that draw blood for the laboratory.
- Daily review as necessary of Uncollected List (General Lab & Microbiology).
- Assists in the crosstraining of Phlebotomy & Central Processing staff.
Must have a strong understanding of phlebotomy procedures and laboratory operations. Excellent communication and leadership skills are required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
Work Environment:This role is based in Concord, MA, at Emerson Hospital. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic laboratory environment, interacting with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
