Job Summary

Cumming Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Payroll Accountant to join our team in Westport, CT. As a key member of our Payroll team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of payroll processing, account reconciliations, and financial statements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Close Support: Assist with the monthly financial close by preparing account reconciliations, submitting journal entries, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to obtain relevant information.
  • Payroll Expertise: Demonstrate advanced understanding of accounting principles, ability to understand the impact of payroll activity on financial statements, and analyze and explain P&L and Balance Sheet variances.
  • Account Reconciliations: Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure the completeness and accuracy of applicable ledger accounts.
  • Financial Inquiries: Answer accounting and financial inquiries by researching and interpreting data.
  • Year-End Audits: Assist in year-end audits and manage ad-hoc inquiries from external auditors.
  • Payroll Journal Management: Manage the posting of bi-weekly payroll journals.
  • Salary Data Reconciliation: Reconcile salary data to the General Ledger.
  • Benefit Plan Management: Account for and reconcile various benefit plans, including Life Insurance, Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA, FSA, and Transit.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 years of experience in accounting, GL accounting software, and payroll systems.
  • Skills: Extensive knowledge of payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. High proficiency in Excel.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Workday Payroll System and Deltek VantagePoint.
