About the Position

The City of Palo Alto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Landfill Technician to join our Zero Waste Team. As a key member of our three-person crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the long-term sustainability of our closed landfill, preventing groundwater contamination and air pollution, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and maintain grades in accordance with established plans.
  • Maintain ongoing records of inspections, monitoring, and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct inspections, document findings, and monitor sites to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining and monitoring the performance of the leachate and landfill gas extraction system and the landfill cover system.
  • Services pneumatic pumps and wells and the PVC and HDPE piping used in the landfill gas and leachate extraction systems.
Requirements
  • Two years of college with an emphasis on engineering/construction or associated subjects.
  • Two years of field engineering/construction experience, preferably in a landfill environment.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, Class C.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CA OSHA 40 hours Hazardous Waste Training.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Fusion Certification.
