Staff Accountant Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Perform general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization
  2. Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements
  3. Maintain the general ledger
  4. Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close the monthly books
  5. Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks
  6. Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manage accounts receivable collections
  7. Verify and/or complete payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensure payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
  8. Provide outside auditors with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit
  9. File tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies
Qualifications/Education/Experience/Abilities:
  • BS in Accounting or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is required
  • Prior experience with Government/Defense Contractor is a plus
  • Experience with SAP highly preferred

This position requires access to or use of export-controlled technical data or technology controlled by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
