About the Role

Munich Re is seeking an experienced Actuary to join our Corporate Reserving team in Princeton, NJ or New York City. As a key member of our Transformation, Operations and Processes team, you will play a critical role in shaping the processes and systems used for reserving and act as an interface between local and global finance functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a diverse team to maximize the quality of Corporate Reserving's deliverables and the success of Munich Re group
  • Organize or participate in reserve reviews performed for the Munich Re America Pooled Companies, evaluating reserves for selected portfolios based on actuarial methods
  • Drive automation and complexity reduction, as well as transition towards new ways of collaboration
  • Create new, modify, and enhance existing applications, methods, and systems in collaboration with global reserving, business units, and IT
  • Perform actuarial analyses, including actual vs. expected comparisons, automated reserving calculations, and business segmentation
  • Work in-depth with and prepare/visualize actuarial data to facilitate decisions and processes
  • Communicate and act as an interface between Corporate Reserving and the Global Reserving team, as well as Controlling, Accounting, and Claims staff locally and globally
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual internal and external reporting and closing with regards to the non-life reinsurance business
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, mathematics, actuarial science, or a similar qualification with a strong quantitative focus; Masters or MBA preferred
  • FCAS (or comparable actuarial society) experience
  • Experience in non-life (re)insurance, including reserving, pricing, underwriting, risk management, controlling, or similar disciplines
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with emphasis on practical application
  • Experience with insurance-related databases and data warehouses preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Strong project management, process optimization, and change management skills
