Job Summary

Otsuka is seeking an experienced attorney to join our team as a Director, Corporate Counsel. This role requires a strong understanding of employment law, complex civil/commercial litigation, general corporate law, and governance principles.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of providing expert guidance on the legal aspects of the employment relationship, collaborating with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives, and staying up-to-date on US employment/labor law developments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance on employment law and compliance with federal, state, and local laws
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives and policies
  • Stay up-to-date on US employment/labor law developments and communicate pertinent information to the HR community and company leadership
  • Provide legal support for all functions with employment law matters
  • Draft, review, and manage contracts and agreements
  • Manage litigation and related processes, including budget, staffing, strategy, and mitigation efforts
Additional Responsibilities
  • Identify and evaluate complex solutions to meet business needs
  • Manage relationships with internal clients and act as a business partner
  • Recommend changes to policies, processes, and practices to improve operational support
  • Provide specialist advice on policy interpretation and application
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) or equivalent degree and admission to at least one state bar
  • Minimum of 7 years of combined relevant experience as an attorney at a law firm and/or in the life sciences industry
  • Experience collaborating with multicultural key stakeholders and project teams
  • Up to 25% travel required based on business needs
