Job Summary

Miller Environmental Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hazardous Materials Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our environmental response and remediation team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient cleaning and decontamination of regulated materials from various sources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify, remove, pack, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, waste oil, fuel, transmission fluid, radioactive materials, or contaminated soil.
  • Operate specialized equipment to remove, package, store, or transport loads of waste materials.
  • Load or unload materials into containers or onto trucks, using hoists or forklifts.
  • Record numbers of containers stored at disposal sites, specifying amounts or types of equipment or waste disposed.
  • Clean contaminated equipment or areas for re-use, using detergents or solvents, sandblasters, filter pumps, or steam cleaners.
  • Create containment areas prior to beginning abatement or decontamination work.
  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
  • Maintain logs (DTR/ DDL) and immediately report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
Requirements:
  • Valid unrestricted license (CDL- A or B a plus)
  • Clean driver's license with a clean driving record to meet company standards
  • The ability to work weekends and extended hours as needed, and the ability to travel and work at remote sites as needed
  • Basic math, mechanical, teamwork and troubleshooting skills are required
  • Must pass DOT hazmat physical (if applicable), drug and alcohol screening, and detailed background check
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the field or similar position
  • Successful completion of safety, mechanical, hazmat, equipment and/or equivalent training
