Position Title: Healthcare Support Specialist

Department: Primary Care

Reports To: Director of Primary Care

POSITION SUMMARY

The Healthcare Support Specialist is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care under the supervision of a licensed medical provider. This role involves providing essential referral information to patients within the Primary Care Clinic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Conduct patient interviews and health assessments according to established protocols.
  2. Document and report observations reflecting the care provided and patient progress.
  3. Assist in developing treatment plans.
  4. Manage bandages and dressings, apply orthopedic devices, and instruct patients on their use.
  5. Perform basic ophthalmic tests to gather necessary results.
  6. Remove sutures or staples from minor wounds.
  7. Conduct ear lavages to alleviate impacted cerumen.
  8. Support patients with mobility and transfers.
  9. Prepare patients for examinations and assist healthcare providers during procedures.
  10. Provide patient education and instructions as directed by a physician.
  11. Collect and record vital patient data including height, weight, and blood pressure.
  12. Administer first aid and CPR in emergencies.
  13. Handle front office tasks such as answering calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient records.
  14. Facilitate referrals for primary care services.
  15. Ensure timely communication and follow-up on referrals.
  16. Assist with authorization submissions to health plans.
  17. Support staff coverage as necessary.
  18. Travel may be required within designated clinic locations.
  19. Coordinate continuity of care based on provider directives.
  20. Adhere to organizational policies and HIPAA regulations.
  21. Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
  22. Familiarity with electronic health record systems is preferred.
  23. Assist with vaccine audits and temperature monitoring as needed.
  24. Complete other duties as required by management.
EDUCATION

Healthcare Support Specialist - Salary Range $25 - $27 Hour DOE

  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program. Phlebotomy certification is advantageous.
EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three months to one year of experience in a medical office, clinic, or hospital setting, or completion of an internship with the organization.
