Goldman Sachs Private Bank provides competitive borrowing and cash management solutions from Goldman Sachs Bank USA, integrated with our clients' wealth management goals.

Our experienced team partners with clients to advise on new loans, refinancing, and restructuring of existing loans, as well as overall liability management.

We offer a wide range of creative borrowing solutions against various asset classes, including marketable securities, alternative investments, residential and commercial real estate, and private assets such as aviation, fine art, or vineyards.

Private Lending Underwriting

Private Lending Underwriting (PLU) is based in Dallas, TX, and is primarily responsible for underwriting loans to GS Private Wealth Management (PWM) clients.

PLU assesses, underwrites, documents, and monitors the credit and business risks incurred in loan transactions.

The underwriting process involves a thorough analysis of the borrower's financial condition, assessment of collateral, identification of risks and mitigants, and other items.

We underwrite various types of loans, including commercial real estate, GS and third-party private equity/hedge funds, aircraft, fine art, hobby properties, private company stock, yachts, marketable securities, and more.

PLU ensures that our underwriting standards are adhered to in the loan approval process, with exceptions appropriately mitigated and documented.

We also participate in business-related initiatives, such as new product development and systems/operational enhancements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate all risk and economic implications of transactions using strong analytical and technical skills.
  2. Work closely with the Regional Lending Team to advise and develop solutions for clients that meet their needs and remain within acceptable risk parameters.
  3. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the product suite offered in Private Lending.
  4. Ensure consistency in the underwriting process and with the standards prescribed in the Product Lending Guides.
  5. Document the loan structure and analysis for credit approval and file documentation purposes.
  6. Ensure that loan documentation is consistent with the approved terms and that appropriate risk ratings are assigned to each loan transaction.
  7. Confirm compliance with all covenant and collateral monitoring procedures.
  8. Ensure that loan approvals and policy exceptions are documented appropriately and that credit files are maintained in a satisfactory manner.
  9. Interact with banking regulators as needed.
  10. Provide other support for GS Bank USA's loan portfolio as requested.
Requirements

A Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred for a more senior role).

CPA or CFA a plus.

3+ years of work experience (Associate) in a financial field or 8+ years of work experience (Vice President).

Relevant work experience in commercial banking and/or private banking underwriting or credit roles.

Key skills include detailed knowledge of financial accounting, analysis, and modeling.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Strong project management, multi-tasking, and work organization skills.
