Project Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to play a crucial role in ensuring the successful coordination and preparation of approval submittals for materials required per the contract, drawings, and specifications for assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organize and maintain project records; prepare schedules for hardware, etc.
  • Complete change order documentation and coordination of submittals
  • Review RFI's for cost and schedule impacts
  • Ensure code compliance
  • Generate bill of materials
  • Provide job reports (verbal and written), Attend project turn over meetings
  • Obtain specification, addendum, alternates, and architectural floor plans
  • Obtain scope of work and estimate take-offs
  • Create a hardware schedule and template package for approval
  • Review and check incoming drawings from suppliers
  • Prepare and submit all items required to complete the project
  • Coordinate with the project manager on project keying
  • Obtain returned approval drawings from the customer
  • Approved drawings are returned to suppliers by transmittal with instructions to proceed with fabrications
  • Provide file and field use drawings to the customer
  • Purchasing of hardware items, glass, and engineering-related items
  • Compile project binders for project managers & field superintendents
  • Update and maintain a checklist for close-out documents from the submittal log
  • Maintain O & M manuals required for project close-out
  • Create engineering and special drawings
  • Assist with hardware inventory
  • Compile project key control, including shipping spares and final keys
  • Obtain all close-out documentation from subcontractors and suppliers
Measures of Performance:
  • Material order mistakes
  • Material estimates pick-ups
  • RFI-generated change orders
  • Timely submittals
  • Completeness of approvals
  • Field reworks due to Engineer errors
  • Coordination and cooperation with coworkers
  • Vendor and customer relations
  • Timely communication and resolution of job problems and issues
  • Provide timely and accurate job reports
Requirements:
  • Education
  • Required:
  • High school diploma
  • Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, ongoing continuing education work in construction engineering
  • Licensing/Registration/Certification
  • Required:
  • None
  • Preferred:
  • AHC or P.E.
  • Experience
  • Required:
  • 2 years of Construction Engineering experience
  • Preferred:
  • 4 years of Construction Engineering experience and 2 years of AutoCAD experience
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of construction and detention equipment
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Goal-oriented
  • Advanced computer skills (internet, word processing, spreadsheets, AutoCAD or similar program)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of procurement processes
