Job Description

Position Overview:

As a Software Systems Engineer, you will provide critical engineering support for C5ISR systems utilized in various aviation and maritime operations. This role is essential in ensuring the functionality and reliability of systems deployed across Coast Guard assets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • COMPTIA Security+ certification is required
  • Must possess a Secret security clearance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver expert engineering support to maintain and enhance Coast Guard Aviation C5ISR systems and associated equipment.
  • Collaborate with government personnel to identify and implement engineering solutions for system hardware and software maintenance.
  • Provide technical assistance for the installation, updating, and repair of various C5ISR components, including:
    • Satellite Communication and Radar Systems
    • Networking Devices (Routers, Switches)
    • Computing Devices (Workstations, Laptops)
    • Power Management Systems
    • Video Processing Equipment
    • Mission System Integration Tools
  • Requirements Analysis: Support the evaluation of potential software and hardware components for C5ISR systems, aiding in the design and development of system specifications.
  • Software Development: Assist in the creation and deployment of software modifications and updates for aviation units.
  • Hardware Management: Aid in the efficient management of C5ISR hardware products, including inventory control and compliance with transportation regulations.
  • Interface Design: Contribute to the development of interface specifications for current and future aviation C5ISR software tools.
  • System Integration: Assist in the creation of Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) and Technical Orders, ensuring compliance with installation protocols.
  • Provide system integration support at various locations as needed.
  • Incident Management: Perform service desk functions related to incident management for both classified and unclassified systems.
  • Software Integration: Offer technical engineering support for software updates and maintain oversight of Information Assurance protocols.
  • Software Maintenance: Engage in software maintenance activities, including scripting and testing, to ensure operational integrity.
  • Support the management and development of virtualized environments for aviation systems.
  • Utilize configuration management tools to maintain accurate configuration data as directed.
  • Employ static analysis tools to address security vulnerabilities in software development.
  • Track project progress using project management tools, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards through the use of automated compliance checkers.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in requirements analysis and development
  • Experience in creating and interpreting system diagrams and schematics
  • Familiarity with service desk support for enterprise and network services
  • Knowledge of Information Assurance practices
  • Experience with scripting and software maintenance tasks
  • Proficient in various operating systems and virtualization technologies
  • Demonstrated skills in cybersecurity mitigation
