Position Overview

We are seeking exceptional and driven individuals for the role of Scientist 2 within the Corrosion Team, part of the Nuclear Materials Science Group (MST-16). This group is renowned for its contributions to plutonium science and engineering, engaging in a wide array of programs from fundamental research to applied initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced materials science research focused on the corrosion and surface science of plutonium utilizing specialized techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret data from experiments, and effectively communicate findings through technical reports and publications.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to support comprehensive experimental research.
  • Contribute to the achievement of milestones associated with various core mission programs and fundamental research projects.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with safety, security, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven experience in physical chemistry, chemical kinetics, and material characterization.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to scientific excellence and timely deliverables.
  • Record of achievements through publications and technical contributions.
  • Experience in managing research programs and budgets.
  • Ability to obtain necessary security clearance.

Education:

A Bachelor's degree in a STEM field is required, along with 4 years of relevant experience, ideally including post-doctoral research or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Active security clearance and a proven record of safe practices in a nuclear environment.
  • Experience handling radioactive materials and working in a nuclear facility.
