Position Summary

The Theater Production Supervisor plays a crucial role in managing the production aspects of the Guthrie's mainstage and studio programming. Collaborating closely with the Director of Production, this position ensures seamless coordination across various production disciplines, facilitating effective communication with visiting designers and artists to guarantee timely and budget-conscious production openings.

Key Responsibilities1. Production Oversight
  • Oversee daily production operations to support all performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Production to resolve issues with Production Department Heads.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive production schedules.
  • Ensure design guidelines are current and accessible.
  • Assist in the formulation and management of annual production budgets.
  • Monitor and track production-related expenses.
  • Facilitate regular production meetings with staff and creative teams.
  • Maintain production calendars and disseminate relevant information organization-wide.
  • Ensure production departments have adequate resources to achieve artistic goals.
  • Promote a safe working environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
2. Support for Creative Teams
  • Communicate effectively with creative team members regarding available resources.
  • Keep shared design documents updated in accessible folders.
  • Coordinate onsite design meetings and visits with the Assistant Production Manager.
  • Guide the creative team through the production process.
  • Lead design and production meetings, as well as post-preview discussions.
  • Relay updates and changes to the creative team and production heads.
3. Leadership and Management
  • Supervise the Production Stage Manager and Events Production Manager.
  • Conduct department meetings to share essential information and commitments.
  • Mentor staff by providing feedback and facilitating conflict resolution.
  • Foster a work environment aligned with the Guthrie's core values.
  • Manage timesheets, expense reports, and personnel records for direct reports.
  • Participate in regular meetings with production department heads.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a management role within a theater production environment.
  • Proficient in software tools such as Dropbox, Microsoft Office, and Zoom.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements relevant to the theater industry.
  • Ability to interpret technical design drawings.
  • Experience in budget management is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale productions effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and communicate across diverse departments.
  • Commitment to promoting health and safety practices in theater.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
