Sound Department Head

The Guthrie Theater is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sound Department Head to lead our sound team in the production of high-quality theatrical performances. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for managing the sound department staff and day-to-day operations, ensuring that all sound elements are designed, built, and installed to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the sound department staff, including sound engineers, sound board operators, and lead sound board operators.
- Collaborate with designers and production departments to establish methods for sound design and procurement.
- Prepare and organize technical information for sound elements, ensuring timely and safe installation.
- Manage workflow and prioritize tasks to meet production deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with shop employees, designers, and other departments to ensure smooth production processes.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in sound department management or equivalent experience and training.
- Leadership, supervision, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of professional audio systems, sound design, and theatrical applications.
- Proficiency in QLab and Pro Tools.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond calmly to frequent changes during production and rehearsal.
