Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Surgical Staff RN is accountable for executing nursing responsibilities in the operating room with precision and efficiency, adhering to established protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify early indicators of intra-operative complications and promptly communicate findings to the appropriate physician to avert surgical risks or harm to the patient.
  • Administer medications in accordance with ASC regulations.
  • Anticipate the requirements of the surgical team, ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly.
  • Report any damaged equipment or instruments following the correct procedures.
  • Maintain a secure and tranquil environment for both patients and clinical personnel.
  • Execute treatments and procedures in line with ASC policies, physician directives, and clarify any ambiguous orders.
  • Facilitate communication between nurses and physicians as necessary, including updating the surgeon's preference cards during procedures and informing the Charge Nurse of new physician preferences.
  • Provide guidance to patients, family members, and significant others as needed.
  • Assist Anesthesia staff with patient induction and transfer to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), ensuring efficient turnover between surgical cases.
  • Act as a resource for enhancing patient care practices and serve as a mentor when required.
  • Document performance specifics during emergency situations and relay this information to the OR Charge Nurse.
  • Maintain clear, concise, and accurate documentation of all relevant patient information to track progress based on the established care plan.
  • Support the transition process for implementing new forms within the OR by selecting and initiating appropriate documentation at suitable times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Must possess a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida and maintain licensure throughout employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain ACLS/BLS/PALS certification within 30 days of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strength: Medium (ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally).
  • Standing/Walking: Required constantly; activity may occur up to 90% of the time.
  • Keyboarding/Dexterity: Required occasionally; activity may occur from 1/3 of the time.
  • Ability to focus on a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and finger motions.
  • Capability to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for prolonged periods.
  • Physically able to work extended hours.
  • Effective verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Visual and auditory capabilities are necessary.
