POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a full-time Security Officer to join our Safety & Security Department. Reporting directly to the Director of Safety & Security, the Security Officer will play a crucial role in implementing a community-focused approach to safety and security, serving as the first line of response during campus emergencies.

The role requires availability for the night shift from 10pm to 6am, Tuesday through Saturday, with the flexibility to assist with additional responsibilities such as traffic control, event security, and other urgent needs on a 24/7 basis, including weekends and holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Emergency Response

Security Officers are expected to respond promptly to all emergency situations, including fire alarms, security breaches, medical emergencies, and 911 calls. Officers will investigate reports of suspicious behavior and activate the campus emergency notification system when necessary.

Safety & Security Duties

Officers will conduct proactive patrols of the campus by foot, bicycle, and vehicle, respond to service requests, ensure the security of buildings, manage access control, perform safety inspections, monitor surveillance systems, and promote the safety of all community members.

Community Engagement

Building positive relationships within the campus community is essential. Officers are encouraged to engage in constructive dialogue with students and staff, assist in problem-solving, and educate the community about safety protocols. Participation in community events such as meals, assemblies, and sports is also required.

Administrative Responsibilities

Documentation is a critical part of the role. Officers must maintain a daily activity log, complete incident reports promptly, and document findings from safety inspections. Attendance at scheduled training sessions is mandatory, and officers may be assigned additional administrative tasks as needed.

Professional Conduct

All officers are expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism, respect, and ethical behavior. Compliance with all foundation policies and departmental guidelines is essential. Confidentiality regarding all records and reports is required, and officers must be prepared to work additional shifts or events as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years of experience in customer service or public safety
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Proficiency in using Windows-based systems and applications
  • Capacity to learn and utilize internet and mobile applications
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations
  • First Responder and CPR/AED certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license required
  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory
