WORK OBJECTIVE

The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for executing certified law enforcement responsibilities within a designated educational institution of the Broward County Public Schools District. This role encompasses various duties, including campus surveillance, crime prevention strategies, criminal investigations, and traffic management. The School Resource Officer (SRO) initiative is a community-oriented, cooperative school policing and law enforcement program that provides all public school campuses in the county with professionals who act as role models while possessing all law enforcement duties and arrest powers. The position operates with minimal oversight, allowing for significant discretion in the application of initiative and independent judgment. The individual in this role will utilize their experience to determine the most effective methods by interpreting and applying relevant policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The City of Hallandale Beach is currently seeking applications for the part-time Campus Safety Officer position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Four years of prior law enforcement experience
  • Must possess National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (levels to be determined by job classification requirements).
  • Must hold a valid state of Florida Police Officer certification through the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC).
  • Must maintain a valid Florida driver's license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, candidates must be able to perform each of the established essential functions to succeed in this role.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may undergo a comprehensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but is not limited to, evaluation of training and experience, background investigation, medical evaluation, and controlled substance screening.

Applicants are required to sign an affidavit for non-use of tobacco products to be considered for employment.

Insurance Benefits

Health Insurance

The City provides employees with health insurance benefits through Aetna Health Care Plan. The City covers 100% of the premium cost for employees and 70% for dependents.

Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)

The City provides Police employees with a Health Reimbursement Arrangement account to assist with the annual health insurance deductible. The funds are not taxable, are pre-funded by the City, and can be used for qualified in-network medical deductibles or prescription copays incurred under the medical plan. Depending on the health insurance plan selected, the City contributes either $2,000, $3,000, or $4,000 to your HRA account on a Fiscal Year basis. The HRA funds do not roll over from year to year and cannot be used for dental or vision expenses.

Dental Insurance

The City provides employees with dental insurance through Aetna Dental, offering two options (Dental DMO or Dental PPO). The City contributes $5.00 per month towards dental coverage premiums.

Vision Program

Vision coverage for routine eye exams, eyeglasses, and contact lenses is available through Aetna Health Care. The City covers 100% of the cost for employee-only coverage.

Life Insurance / Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

The City provides all full-time employees with $50,000 in term life insurance at no cost to employees.

Supplemental Life Insurance / Supplemental AD&D Insurance

Employees may purchase supplemental term life insurance up to $500,000 on an individual-choice basis, with premiums based on age.

Discounted Supplemental Insurances

Several supplemental insurances are offered through AFLAC at discounted rates for City employees, including Accident, Cancer, Critical Care, Hospital Confinement Protection, and Short-term Disability.

Hospital Indemnity Plan

A voluntary Hospital Indemnity Plan is offered through Aetna Health Care Plan, providing benefits for hospital confinement, whether planned or unplanned, as well as for other medical services.

Retirement/Savings Accounts

Florida Retirement System

Participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) is mandatory for all eligible Campus Safety Officer employees. The FRS offers eligible employees a choice between a Pension Plan and an Investment Plan. General Employees are classified in the Regular Service Class, and as of July 1, 2019, the mandatory employee contribution rate is 3% of salary, regardless of the chosen plan.

Deferred Compensation Plan (457 Plan)

The City offers a deferred compensation plan (MissionSquare 457 plan), allowing employees to contribute on a pre-tax basis voluntarily. No employer contributions are made.

Roth IRA Savings Plan (Roth IRA)

The City provides a Roth IRA savings plan, allowing employees to make after-tax contributions through payroll deductions voluntarily. No employer contributions are made.

Flexible Spending Account(s)

The City offers two Flexible Spending Accounts through Benefits Outsource (BOI), providing pre-tax savings for employees. One plan covers dependent care, and the other provides for medical reimbursement. Employees may set up a flexible spending account during the annual Open Enrollment period only.
