Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Assistant Professor in Hydrologic Sciences within the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation. This is a full-time, tenure-track position that encompasses a 9-month commitment, primarily focused on research (45%) and teaching (45%), along with a 10% administrative role in the Virginia Water Resources Research Center. Our department and research center are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment through integrated programs and activities in research, education, and outreach. The ideal candidate will spearhead a dynamic, externally funded research initiative recognized for its scientific rigor; mentor a diverse array of graduate and undergraduate students; and deliver high-quality instruction. Course offerings may include seminar or capstone courses for the water resources degree program, a course on forest soil and watershed management, and a graduate-level course in the candidate's area of expertise. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, and international collaboration and recognition are both encouraged and anticipated as the candidate's career progresses. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate actively in departmental, college, and university committees.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. or equivalent in hydrologic sciences or a closely related field with applications in natural resources is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

● A proven track record of scholarship and peer-reviewed publications in the field of water resources.
● Demonstrated ability to secure research funding sufficient to support graduate students and maintain an active, inclusive research program.
● Evidence of effective and inclusive teaching and mentoring capabilities.
● A strong commitment to promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive academic community.
