Substation Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Engineer to join our team at Westwood Professional Services, Inc. As a Substation Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design and development of high-voltage substation projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, potential and current schematics, control schematics, alarm schematics, and communications schematics for high-voltage substation projects.
  • Apply NESC, NEC, and other applicable codes and standards in the engineering design process.
  • Work with internal and external project stakeholders to ensure project milestones and expectations are met.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design calculations, construction documentation, and technical support.
  • Collaborate with P&C designers to develop schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Coordinate efforts with other design disciplines, such as transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, and telecom engineers.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized accredited program.
  • EIT certification.
  • Minimum 4 years of related work experience in high-voltage substation design - P&C.
  • Proficient in use of AutoCAD or Bentley Microstation.
  • Strong familiarity with NEC and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Good knowledge of industry and technology trends specific to substations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional engineering license or ability to obtain one within 2 years of hire.
  • Experience in developing relay settings.
  • Experience in protection device coordination.
  • Proficient in use of ASPEN One Liner, CYME Dist, or similar programs.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and constructability.
  • Experience with proposal writing and project estimating.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling and project controls processes.

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000-$125,000+ (depending on experience) and a dynamic work environment that values innovation, dedication, and growth.
