Job Description:

Senior Infectious Disease Manager

Under the limited oversight of the Director of the Emerging and Acute Infectious Diseases Unit (EAIDU), the Senior Infectious Disease Manager is responsible for providing leadership, management, and strategic oversight for initiatives related to the epidemiology and monitoring of infectious disease conditions managed by EAIDU (e.g., Measles, Rubella, COVID-19, etc.). This role involves leading and executing change initiatives concerning processes and technologies while ensuring the organization and its programs adopt and excel in these changes.

The Manager oversees the daily operations related to the epidemiological response and surveillance of infectious diseases. This includes the development of guidelines, policies, and regulations governing infectious disease response and surveillance efforts. The position also entails consulting on epidemiological studies, outbreak investigations, and other scientific endeavors associated with infectious disease conditions.

Additionally, the Manager provides epidemiological consultation regarding the effects of infectious diseases, particularly in the context of disasters such as hurricanes.

This role requires collaboration with various DSHS program areas, including Public Health Preparedness, Immunization, Regulatory, local health departments, and other internal and external stakeholders. Close collaboration with Public Health Regions and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is essential. The Manager acts as the Infectious Disease Deputy, providing leadership, direction, guidance, and support on behalf of the EAIDU Director in all program functions during their absence.

The position operates with minimal supervision and offers considerable latitude in decision-making.



Essential Job Functions:

The Manager supervises assigned personnel, which includes interviewing and selection, establishing performance standards, managing the performance evaluation process, counseling, setting priorities, and developing goals and objectives. They also approve leave requests and facilitate training and staff development.

Working alongside the Director and other EAIDU managers and staff, the Manager ensures the implementation of all required grant activities. They serve as a liaison with the CDC and other grantors concerning EAIDU grants and cooperative agreements, fostering teamwork and communication within EAIDU. In the absence of the EAIDU Director, the Manager provides leadership, direction, guidance, and assistance in all program functions.
