Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Epidemiology and Surveillance Manager to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our Tuberculosis (TB) and Hansen's Disease Unit, you will be responsible for managing the Epidemiology and Surveillance Group, ensuring the effective implementation of TB control strategies, and providing leadership in the development of electronic data software applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily operations of the TB Epidemiology and Surveillance Group, including establishing goals and objectives, developing and maintaining standards of operation, and coordinating activities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supervise program staff, providing clear direction and guidance, and fostering a work environment that promotes teamwork, competency, and a highly skilled workforce.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local, state, and federal health department management staff, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to ensure a system of surveillance and reporting is maintained to accurately determine the impact of tuberculosis and Hansen's disease in Texas.
  • Participate in program collaboration and service integration activities, working across program areas to support overall TB and Hansen's disease functions.
  • Serve as the Unit's subject matter expert in the development of electronic data software applications, participating in discovery sessions with DSHS vendors and information technology teams to develop technical specifications.
Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of public health laws, tuberculosis disease transmission, disease management and prevention methods, and TB epidemiology and other infectious diseases.
  • Ability to manage a public health program, plan, develop and coordinate field operations, and manage program activities and establish goals and objectives.
  • Ability to develop and assess performance measures, devise solutions to administrative problems, and develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, prioritize multiple work assignments, and develop and implement program planning.

This position requires the ability to work in a multidisciplinary work environment, facilitate and work in a team environment, and adhere to agency and program standards.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 5 years of experience in public health program management, epidemiology, or a related field.
