Position Overview

The Retirement Benefits Processor, Sr is responsible for executing complex technical and administrative tasks related to the assessment and validation of retirement benefit inquiries and applications, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and plan specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handles retirement benefit applications; ensures the precision of information, investigates past service records, related credits, and insurance deductions.
  • Addresses inquiries from participants, beneficiaries, and union representatives concerning retirement benefits.
  • Evaluates benefit eligibility and solicits required documentation from unions, employers, and the Social Security Administration to facilitate processing.
  • Drafts and sends correspondence to participants, beneficiaries, employers, and others regarding general account details, retirement benefit history, and monthly retirement payouts.
  • Conducts data entry and corrections to maintain accurate member information.
  • Updates retirement information in relevant information systems.
  • Processes Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs).
  • Prepares balance and run checks; reviews and resolves outstanding checks; recovers overpayments.
  • Examines retirement benefit exception lists for benefit suspensions and recalculations.
  • Generates committee reports, board reports, and monthly statistical summaries.
  • Addresses escalated issues.
  • Assists in the production and distribution of Annual Benefit Statements.
  • Contributes to special projects as requested by management.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in processing retirement benefits.
  • Strong sense of integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, benefit plans, and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of discretion and appropriate handling of sensitive information.
  • Effective organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, depending on location needs.
  • Previous experience in retirement plan administration.
  • Experience with third-party administration.

Working Conditions/Physical Effort
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
