Position Overview
The Retirement Benefits Specialist is responsible for executing technical and administrative functions related to the assessment and validation of participants' retirement benefit inquiries and applications, adhering to company policies, regulatory standards, and plan specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Handles retirement benefit applications; ensures the accuracy of data, investigates past service records, associated credits, and insurance deductions.
- Addresses inquiries from participants, beneficiaries, and union representatives concerning retirement benefits.
- Evaluates benefit eligibility and requests essential documentation from unions, employers, and the Social Security Administration to facilitate processing.
- Drafts and sends correspondence to participants, beneficiaries, employers, and others regarding general account details, retirement benefit history, and monthly retirement payments.
- Conducts data entry and corrections to maintain accurate member information.
- Updates retirement data in relevant information systems.
- Assists with special projects as directed by management.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months of experience in a professional setting.
- Strong commitment to integrity and customer satisfaction.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, benefit plans, and regulations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid understanding of discretion and the proper handling of sensitive information.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office tools.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, as needed.
- Previous experience in retirement plan administration.
- Extended periods of sitting at a desk and utilizing a computer.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 15 pounds occasionally.
