Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As an Accounting Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accuracy of all financial transactions posted into Cardinal.
  • Provide internal and external customers with financial services, including financial analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare accounting work papers, financial statements, and other financial reports.
  • Perform full range of accounting functions in accordance with GAAP, federal, state, and VDOT policies and procedures.
  • Advise users on VDOT policies and practices.
  • Support other accounting functions and projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Ability to perform complex and detailed cost analysis and reconciliations.
  • Skill in providing and promoting excellent customer service and financial support to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to research, reconcile, analyze, and evaluate financial data and resolve problems.
  • Skill in using computers and software applications to include automated financial systems.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data and prepare technical financial reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fund accounting and governmental accounting.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical guidance on fiscal matters.
  • Professional experience in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
Working Conditions

This is an hourly position, and employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week/per month on average over the course of a year. No State benefits are provided.

The position is designated as essential and may require working outside normal hours, weekends, and holidays during emergency situations. Travel may be required.
