Job Summary

The Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team at the Center for OB/GYN UMC. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Record and measure vital signs, take patient medical history, and chief complaint, accurately documenting information in the medical chart.
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients.
  • Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization of equipment, adhering to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Assist with scheduling of tests and treatments, ensuring timely and efficient patient care.
  • Prepare patients for examination, including phlebotomy, finger sticks, and collection of other lab specimens.
  • Assist the provider with exams and minor office surgery, adhering to OSHA requirements and practicing OSHA standards.
  • Screen, manage, and follow up on telephone messages from patients, referrals, and pharmacies, ensuring prompt and effective communication.
  • Prepare and send prescriptions electronically per provider's orders, maintaining accurate and legal documentation.
  • Perform waived lab tests, EKGs, and administer injections, adhering to Rural Health Clinic Standards and Corporate Compliance.
  • Apply dressing and remove sutures as ordered by the provider, maintaining a high level of patient care and satisfaction.
  • Use CPR skills when required, adhering to American Heart Association guidelines.
  • Dispose of biohazard waste according to state standards, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Maintain accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times, adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Perform duties and adhere to requirements of Rural Health Clinic Standards, ensuring compliance with Corporate Compliance, Human Resources, Infection Prevention, Equipment Maintenance, Quality, and Regulatory Management.
  • Possess a wide knowledge of resources available within the community, adapting to the resources that are available, and using innovative and creative solutions to manage challenges in the Rural Health Clinic.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as Medical Assistant (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (AMT) is required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • 1-2 years healthcare experience preferred.
